A preview for next week...
Our theme for our last story time before Summer Reading starts will be penguins. Our star book will be If You Were A Penguin which was chosen by Pennsylvania for the 2009 One Book Every Young Child title. To learn more, go to http://www.paonebook.org/
For preview of the craft we'll be doing check out the picture!
We'll be using glue and tape, but hopefully I'll have everything cut out before hand so we can keep the scissors away from all the little fingers.

Happy Mothers Day to our wonderful Moms!
Well with Miss Andrea being sick lately, and missing the Monster story time, we got a little off track here. Today we read and sang about Mothers! Be sure to let mom know how much you love her on Mother's day. We made our magnet picture frames just for her.
We Read:

If Mom Had Three Arms by Karen Kaufman
Honk! by Chris L. Demarest
What Mommies Do Best by Laura Numeroff
I Like Noisy, Mom Likes Quiet by Eileen Spinelli
Other Mom reads:
A Present For Mom by Vivian French
A Mother for Choco by Keiko Kasza
What Mom's Can't Do by Douglas Woods

Holly's Red Boots
I found a cute book called Holly's Red Boots by Francesca Chessa. It's a great book for winter time when it's snowing out. Read allowed to your child and see if Holly can find her red boots so she can play in the snow!

Rabbit Story Time
Dates: Tuesday April 7th at 7 pm and Wednesday April 8th at 10:30 am
Attendance: 21
See the Rabbit Theme on this blog for Titles, our craft and songs!
http://storytimesblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/tom-rabbit-by-martin-waddell.html
Everyone is really excited about Easter, but a little bummed out by how cold it's been the past few days. The kids are more than happy to talk about what they want to do for Easter. But during story time, they seemed reluctant to do much talking when I asked them questions while I was reading. Usually the talkative ones never want to stop. The Dinosaur name tags are STILL a big hit and I'm helping make new ones every week for newcomers or returners who can only make it periodically.
We all loved our bunny puppets today and were really excited to play with them!
Have a happy Easter everyone and remember to leave out a Carrot out for the Easter Bunny.
P.S. I love my flowers. Thanks again!

Hop Hop Hoppy
Sung to: Peter Rabbit
Hop, hop, hoppy cannot wait,
Jumping near my garden gate, Hippity Hoppity,
Carrots on his mind.
Floppy ears are flipping high,
Big feet jumping, my oh my!
Hipitty hoppity,
No carrots left behind.
BUNNY
Sung to: "Bingo"
I know a rabbit with long pink ears
and BUNNY is his name - o
B-U-N-N-Y B-U-N-N-Y B-U-N-N-Y
and BUNNY is his name - o
I'm a Little Bunny
Sung to: "I'm a little teapot"
I'm a little bunny, with a cotton tail;
See me hopping down the trail,
When I see a carrot ---
My ears - they shake!
And then, of course,
A Bite I take!!!
CRUNCH!!!!!
Funny Bunny Hop
Funny, little bunny goes hop, hop, hop!
(children hop, or make bunny ears with fingers and bounce hand)
Funny little bunny, please stop,stop,stop!
(become still)
Wiggle your ears and crinkle your nose.
)hands above head for ears, wiggle them. Crinkle your nose)
Then wiggle, wiggle, wiggle right down to your toes.
(wiggle whole body)

Craft
Bunny Cup Puppet
Idea from "Storytimes for Two-Year-Olds" Second Edition by Judy Nichols
Supplies: White foam cups (preferably smooth so the children may draw a scene on it), straws, crayons, tape and a bunny shape cutout.
Directions: I provided the bunny pre-cut to make the project easier for the little ones. I also had the cups ready with holes in the bottom. Have the children decorate their bunny and cup. Once they are ready, tape the bunny to the straw and put the straw through the hole in the cup. You now have a bunny hole and a puppet ready for a show!
